Jordy van den Nieuwendijk is an artist from The Netherlands who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. His style is distinctive, colourful and full of fun, which makes him the ideal match for La Reggenza’s sparkling wines.

JORDY’S STYLE

Jordy paints to explore. His work is peculiarly deceptive – on the surface it can appear simple, naive even, and yet in his hands, primary colours and simple lines and shapes create an imaginatively charged world where recognisable, figurative objects share the space with more abstract forms. There is a freedom in this approach, which results in imagery that appeals both emotionally and aesthetically. It is a style that has been described as “new purism”.

IDEA TO ART

Jordy’s creativity displays considerable nuance and wit. He is a skilled draftsman – he taught drawing class at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague from 2014-19, the school from which he had himself graduated only a few years earlier. On the occasion of that graduation he marked the passing of Superoboturbo, his alter ego, by holding a funeral and memorial service. There is clearly whimsy in Jordy’s active imagination, in which the everyday becomes extraordinary.
